LeeLoo: Finding Your Own Voice

FINDING YOUR OWN VOICE
This workshop provides an intimate group setting where people can share their thoughts and ideas about their experience using their voice. We will discuss common thoughts as concerns associated with singing, followed by standard breathing exercises, stretches, warm up exercises, and then create group harmony, and finally improvisation. In the end we will create our own song, where each voice can be heard, exclaimed, fully expressed or even shouted! Come share your thoughts, notes, song, and find your own beautiful, natural singing voice from within.
LeeLoo is an active performer, singer, dancer and graduate of Berklee College of Music. She has fronted several Boston bands, toured the Northeast, Europe, the Middle East and Asia, and has written several albums. Among many of the competitions and battle of the bands festivals she has participated in, she also took part in American Idol in 2010 and The Voice in 2013.
LeeLoo discovered her love for music and singing at the age of 5, taking parts in many musical theater shows, while gaining a foundation in classical music, and learning songs in 4 different languages. She also has a tremendous dance background having performed in The Nutcracker through Joseph Stanford Ballet Company at age 7. However, as she grew up her passion for music superseeded dance and she followed her voice. She was chosen to sing the “National Anthem” at Shea Stadium in NY, and was chosen to open Adelphi University’s Matriculation ceremonies as the college’s official anthem singer.
Later, she wanted a complete musical make-over, and attended Berklee College of Music, to study contemporary styles including, pop, rock, metal, jazz, blues and R&B. She studied under Gabrielle Goodman, back-up singer to Aretha Franklin and Chaka Khan. Diversity, versatility, and pushing the limits in edgy genres of music have been her primary focus.
LeeLoo draws from a wide range of influences that make her the versatile artist she is today, including metal, R&B, jazz, classical, pop and rock. She continues to work with many different artists, either coaching them on their own albums in the studio, or recording vocal tracks for various records. She is also a singer/song-writer and is available to WRITE, COACH, COLLABORATE OR RECORD on virtually ANY music projects you have to offer.
She will be available for teaching group vocal workshops, performances with Incus, drum circle jams, and general consultation about anything regarding your voice!

Andres Doxer

“Usko-Ayar Amazonian School Power Animal Pendants”

Rainforests are treasures troves of life, and home to some of the most biologically and culturally diverse landscapes on earth. The Amazon is the largest tropical rainforest and home of ten percent of the worlds known species. Andres will share some interesting facts and stories from his travels in the Peruvian and Ecuadorian Amazon, which will then be followed by two hands on crafts.
Choosing from a series of hand painted Amazon animals by students of the Usko-Ayar Amazonian School of Painting, Unifier kids will have the opportunity to create their own “Usko-Ayar Power-Animal Pendants” . The Usko-Ayar (Quecha term for “Spiritual Prince”) is more than an art school. It is an institution devoted to the rescue and preservation of the knowledge and the traditions of the indigenous people of the Peruvian Amazon. Their art is a documentation of the flora, fauna, and culture of the Amazon, and it promotes and preserves the traditional knowledge of medicinal and other plants of this region. Copied painting of animals (such as snake, jaguar, eagle, anteater, and others) will be available to paste onto cardboard circles and adorn them with feathers and beads. Explanations will be available to offer some insight into the power that each animal carries. The finished product is a co-creation between children of the Amazon and the kids in attendance at Unifier, and may serve as a tool to help the kids bond with and develop a deeper relationship with their “power-animal.”
Another craft option is the creation of “Talking Sticks.” Kids will learn about some of the functions of a talking stick in traditional cultures, and have a chance to create their own using sticks from the forest, adorned with yarn and feathers.
We will conclude our time with a guided drumming “imaginary journey” to a rainforest and share our experiences as we use our talking sticks.

Flight is a Metaphor for Freedom: Exercise through the Art/Science of Play

Join Jen Taylor for a PLAY-ful approach to the magic of aerial yoga on the trapeze and silks. Get upside down in a handstand, find new partnerships with flying yoga & partner acrobatics. The more we concentrate, the more fun we have. This workshop includes warm-up, conditioning, individual skill development along with creative and compositional exploration.  www.om-fly.org

Jen Taylor, Artistic Director of Om-FLY, brings DAKINI to the stage, celebrating those who take flight.    Literally translated as Skywalker, Dakini refers to pre-Tibetan Buddhist era priestesses.    Interdimensionally-practiced yoginis, these ladies were known to fly.   It is probable George Lucas borrowed the phrase for Star Wars.  Luke, we are your mother.

Carolyn Little

Finding the Center

When we connect to our center, (our midline, our core), and we cultivate a sense of stability this fosters a sense of trust in ourselves. It’s from this stability that we can trust our foundation and explore our edges, pushing our boundaries outside of our comfort zone.

We practice this on our mat in physical asanas when we try a new pose or develop a new perspective on a pose we’ve done thousands of times. We experience this in our lives when we trust ourselves to step into the unknown.

In this class we will thread together vinyasa, chi gong, and yin to connect to our center and to explore our true capacity to expand.

Carolyn Little, MA, RYT 500, Reiki Master, Holistic Health & Life Coach
In my classes I hold a safe, open space, free from judgement, guiding students through an integration of vinyasa, kundalini kriyas, chi-gong, yin, meditation and pranayama. I encourage students to honor all of who they are, to recognize that they are enough. As we all experience plenty of challenges and suffering in our lives, I believe a sense of light-heartedness and humor is essential both on and off the mat! With a graduate degree in Social Justice in Intercultural Relations, and a focus in Public Heath, I bring a multidisciplinary approach to wellness, empowerment, and leadership shaped by my experiences working and traveling nationally and internationally. I integrate techniques of meditation, movement and integrative nutrition, providing a unique opportunity for my students to mindfully learn to love and heal all parts of themselves in order to live fully with vitality, ease and grace. I am a Reiki Master, Pranassage Practitioner (an integration of yoga and massage) and am trained in Experiential Anatomy, Prenatal Yoga, and Yin Yoga.

Kayla “Maple” Steen: Buddhaplasm Designs

DIY Poi and Toy: Thursday at 1:30pm

There was love, then there was concentration, then came poi. DIY Poi and Toy will be a fun filled session of fashioning your very own sock and rice practice Poi toys and then learning some of the basic skills it takes to not clock yourself in the noggin! Poi is not just an ancient dance of the Maori people but also a reflection of inner peace and communication with the self. The synchronized swinging and weaving of  ball and string(or rice and sock) demand harmonious concentration of both sides of your brain which can lead to hours of fun play. We will go over the basic moves together and maybe a few hard ones. Challenging yourself with new and fun obstacles is the best way to get in touch with yourself and the world around you, so if poi seems too scary just remember that it’s not! Come down and poi around! (ALL dexterity appropriate ages welcome)

The Joy of Tribal Face Painting: Friday at 1:00pm

A little basic color mixing lesson mixed with a little tribal inspiration will fuel this parent on child face-painting adventures! Tribes of ancient peoples had painted themselves for reasons of war, celebration and sacred ritual, and to represent family bonds. Pulling some inspiration from our primal elements and a few from our more inspired modern face painters you will create your own tribal make up to reflect your unique family. There are absolutely no limits on where you can take your face-painting and no such thing as a mistake, just happy accidents! We will be using non-toxic water soluble paints, applied by parents and perhaps some parents will get painted too! After painting we will all commence in our Unifier celebrations and head to the Children’s parade!

Steeped in the beautiful green mountains of Vermont, Maple “Kayla” Steen also known as Buddhaplasm Designs has been quickly and quietly pushing away the edges of art. Having done some studying at the University of Vermont I am predominantly a self taught artist, enthusiast and student of the earth. Starting at a young age with the flute I immediately wanted more, moving up the instrument ladder. Spending my time in jazz bands and volunteer counseling at a children’s summer camp for some years allowed me to grow and learn what it is to encourage and mentor a younger person in their search for art. Now swiftly approaching two decades of painting, sewing, and crafting I’ve decided to finally reflect my energy back out as Buddhaplasm Designs making thoughtful handmade objects for my family and friends. On my amazing journey to my solar powered mountain home I came across the wonderful art and dance of Poi! I was immediately hooked by the wonderful symbiosis of learning and playing. Today I have graduated to fire and light dance poi but I still use my practice set everyday! Combining this kind of dance meditation with my daily meditations and arts have allowed me to come alive in a way that I never could imagine, and I’m really excited to share it with you! If you love art and nature you can follow me on any number of online forums like Etsy, Tumblr, Instagram and Facebook.
