Angela Roell

Are you thinking about starting a wonderful hobby with a fascinating social insect that will bring you closer to nature? Do you want to know more about what beekeeping entails? This practical workshop will help you understand and potentially start the craft of keeping honeybees. The program will include information about hives and beekeeping material, set-up, honeybee life, a beekeeper’s year, and natural management. We will begin the workshop by opening a small nucleus hive to discuss hive anatomy.  We will discuss bee life and activity within various hives, hive management on a natural system, and hive splitting.  It is recommended that you wear long sleeves and pants if you’d like to handle the honeybees.

Angela Roell is a treatment free beekeeper who lives  in Western Massachusetts.  She has studied treatment free methods with Dee Lusby and Michael Bush.  She mentored under Boston area organic beekeeper Jean Claude Bourrut.  She makes and sells hive products via Yard Birds Farm, a small sustainable farm she co-founded with her partner. At Yard Birds Farm she tends to honeybees, grows nutrient dense specialty greens & herbs, and makes kim-chis, pestos and sauces. She produces balms & salves, propolis tinctures, and herb infused honeys from her hives.  More information is available at:  www.yardbirdsfarm.com
