Fan veils, so delicate that they float like water in the air, yet simultaneously a powerful and energetic accent to your dance! Learn to use these and make your performance stand out and engage your audience members.

This workshop is 1.5 hrs. No experience required but pls bring a pair of fans, preferably ones with veils as we’ll be focusing most on this technique.  There will be only a few available to borrow.

Renata is a multi-faceted performer: singer, dancer, percussionist, fire spinner, stilt walker and actor! Dancing for over 20 years, she’s studied with numerous world-renown teachers in America and Egypt and performed with a variety of dance companies in CA and NY. While her main love has been belly dance, her passion for other world dance forms has encouraged her to study additional styles such as salsa, African, khatak, flamenco and tango. She currently performs as a soloist and is a member of three NY based dance companies:  Desert Sin, Alchemy Dance Theater and Bold Bellydance.  Upon discovering the fire arts, Renata was drawn to the flame like a moth, so now also incorporates fire in her dance.  She is a member of the fire troupe, Enchanted, an 8 piece fire troupe which creates epic fire productions. As a stilt walker she has traversed the streets of NY in many parades including: Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade, NY Dance Parade and Coney Island Mermaid Parade.  She also is frequently hired for private parties and events throughout the city. When she’s not tromping around, she may be singing or banging a drum with her eclectic band Sherita, playing Balkan, Sephardic, Turkish and original tunes.  Her other life is as an award winning documentary filmmaker and photographer!
