Tanya Evanson is a Canadian poet, performer, producer, educator and director of Banff Centre Spoken Word. She has released three studio albums, six artist books of poetry, an award-winning videopoem and in 2013 received the Golden Beret Award and was Poet of Honour at the Canadian Festival of Spoken Word. Performance highlights include the Vancouver Writers Fest, Vancouver Folk Music Festival, Calgary Spoken Word Festival, Edmonton Poetry Festival, Ottawa International Writer’s Festival, Blue Met, Words Aloud, When Sisters Speak, Bowery Poetry Club, Verses, CBC and Canadian SLAM stages. Recent work includes guest editing Arc Poetry Magazine (Fall 2015) and publication in Oratorealis, Cordite, Litlive, WomanSpeak, Where the Nights Are Twice As Long (Gooselane 2015) and Great Black North – Contemporary African Canadian Poetry (Frontenac 2013). In fall 2016, she launches her fourth album ‘ZenShip’ with performances in England, Scotland, Australia and Indonesia. She lives in Montreal and moonlights as a whirling dervish.
